'Other Campaign' update: 25th March – 4th April 2007

Most of the news of the last fortnight has focused on the resumption of the Other Campaign at the end of March and the call “to take on the commitment to carry out joint actions of mutual solidarity”. As mentioned in an article in La Jornada, phase 2 is taking place “in a complex political panorama” of recent electoral results and paramilitary activity.

The following report has been published from the Cucapa camp.

Resistance continues in Oaxaca, as outlined in the following report which also contains commentary on the claim that APPO is being overly-influenced by certain left-wing groups. Some success has recently been achieved with the cancellation of the Miss Universe event planned to take place in Oaxaca later in the year. A number of stunning photos of events in Oaxaca over the last year can be found here.

Following court cases brought on as a result of the deportation of foreigners who were the victims of state violence in Atenco last year, the Mexican Supreme Court has recently ruled that foreigners expelled by government officials have the right to have their cases reviewed before they are expelled.
